The passing of Dr. Maya Angelou really kind of hit home. Not because I somehow thought Dr. Angelou would live forever because we all must go. I immediately thought what a horrible thing it would be for anyone who was born after May 28, 2014. For they would never have the chance to see how eloquently she spoke. They would only have a chance to learn of her from history books or former recordings. However she did leave us with a beautiful legacy of words.
I felt sad for our future. I thought this way until I unfortunately saw a Facebook post, of a 20-year-old thinking that Maya Angelo was the singer Maya. I then remembered that Portia Williams, who happens to be Hosea Williams'(a civil rights activists) grand daughter, thought that the Underground Railroad had a
conductor. I then got sad for another reason entirely.
It dawned on me that there are young people in today's society that have no idea of Dr. Angelos eloquence, no idea of her voice, of her heart, her contributions to literature or of her kind spirit, which really hurts my heart.
In this generation of instant gratification, reality show bad behavior and foolishness, in the battle of morality versus insanity. Morality has unfortunately taken a huge hit.
Having said that I took the time this week to do this inspirational tribute to a woman who meant so much to this world through her words. And with her words, I am hoping that this video touches the hearts of those who appreciated her for her teachings.
